Airwallex Review

Airwallex is a global financial platform designed for businesses that need to manage international payments, multi-currency accounts, corporate cards, expenses, and online payment acceptance. Rather than operating like a traditional bank, Airwallex combines financial accounts with payment and business-management tools in one platform.

After reviewing Airwallex’s current product offering, pricing information, regulatory documentation, and customer feedback across Trustpilot, Reddit, G2, and Capterra, I found a platform with some genuinely useful features for internationally active businesses. At the same time, customer experiences are not universally positive, particularly when accounts or transactions require additional compliance review. That distinction is important. Airwallex can be very convenient for businesses operating across borders, but anyone considering it should understand both its advantages and the potential limitations before moving significant business funds onto the platform.

What Is Airwallex?

Airwallex is a financial technology company founded in Melbourne that provides financial infrastructure for modern businesses. The company says it serves more than 150,000 businesses globally and offers products covering business accounts, payments, treasury, corporate cards, expense management, and embedded finance.

The platform is primarily designed for companies rather than individuals. Airwallex states that applicants generally need to be an officially registered and active business in an eligible country and must operate within its supported industries and risk requirements.

This makes Airwallex particularly relevant to ecommerce companies, SaaS businesses, agencies, marketplaces, online sellers, international service providers, and other companies that regularly receive or send money internationally.

What Does Airwallex Offer?

Airwallex has expanded well beyond simple international money transfers. Its platform now covers several areas of business finance.

  • Global Business Accounts: Hold and manage multiple currencies with local account details in supported markets.
  • International Transfers: Send business payments to suppliers, employees, contractors, and other recipients internationally.
  • Foreign Exchange: Convert currencies using Airwallex’s FX infrastructure and available interbank rates.
  • Corporate Cards: Issue physical and virtual cards for businesses and employees.
  • Expense Management: Track spending, receipts, approvals, and employee expenses.
  • Online Payments: Accept card and local payment methods from customers around the world.
  • Payment Links: Create payment experiences without necessarily building a complete checkout system.
  • Integrations: Connect financial workflows with services such as Shopify, Amazon, Xero, and other business platforms.
  • Embedded Finance: Integrate financial services into software products and marketplaces through APIs.

The breadth of the product is one of Airwallex’s biggest attractions. Instead of using one provider for international accounts, another for cards, another for payment processing, and another for expense management, a business can potentially consolidate several workflows within Airwallex.

Airwallex Global Business Accounts

The Global Accounts feature is one of the platform’s most useful tools for internationally active businesses. Airwallex says businesses can transact like local businesses across 70+ countries, with supported local account details and multi-currency functionality varying by market and account type.

For example, a company working with customers or suppliers in several countries can receive funds in supported currencies, hold those funds, convert them when needed, and use them for international payments rather than converting every transaction immediately.

This can be particularly useful for ecommerce businesses and agencies that receive revenue from overseas clients. Airwallex also supports connections with platforms such as Shopify and Amazon in supported configurations.

However, availability is not identical everywhere. Airwallex’s documentation makes clear that onboarding eligibility, account types, and product capabilities vary by country, business type, use case, and the Airwallex entity providing the service.

International Transfers and Foreign Exchange

International payments are at the center of Airwallex’s offering. The company says its infrastructure supports transfers to many countries and currencies, while its business accounts allow companies to keep funds in multiple currencies.

One of the practical advantages is the ability to avoid unnecessary conversions. For example, an ecommerce business receiving USD revenue can potentially retain USD and use it to pay a USD-denominated supplier instead of converting the funds to its domestic currency and later converting them back.

Airwallex also advertises access to interbank FX rates. Actual costs, however, depend on the currency, region, transaction type, account configuration, and applicable fees.

Businesses should therefore review the specific fee schedule rather than assuming every transfer is free. Airwallex’s payment documentation explains that payment costs can include gateway, payment-method, fraud/3DS, and other applicable components.

Airwallex Corporate Cards

Airwallex also provides multi-currency corporate and employee cards. These can be useful when several employees need controlled access to company spending without sharing one physical card.

Card controls can be used to manage spending limits and freeze or cancel cards. The platform also includes expense-management functionality, including receipt collection and approval workflows.

This is one of the areas where Airwallex can be more than just a payment account. A growing company can use the same platform to issue cards, monitor employee spending, manage receipts, and reconcile expenses.

Airwallex Payment Processing

For businesses selling online, Airwallex offers payment acceptance alongside its business-account products. Its current U.S. pricing information lists support for cards and more than 160 local payment methods, although available methods and fees depend on the market.

The company has also expanded its payment network through partnerships such as its collaboration with Discover Global Network. Airwallex announced in 2025 that merchants could accept Discover and Diners Club International cards in supported regions.

For an ecommerce business, the ability to accept different payment methods can be valuable because customers in different countries often prefer different payment options.

Airwallex Pricing

Pricing varies considerably by country and product, so there is no single Airwallex price that applies to every business.

For example, the current U.S. pricing page lists an Explore plan at $0 per user per month, while larger businesses can use customized plans. Certain transactions and services can still carry additional fees, including FX, transfers, and payment processing.

Airwallex’s UK pricing structure is different, with its Explore offering listed at £0 or £19 per month depending on qualifying conditions.

This is why I would not evaluate Airwallex solely by its advertised monthly subscription. A business should calculate its expected costs for FX conversions, card spending, international transfers, payment acceptance, and any additional services it plans to use.

What Customers Say About Airwallex

Customer feedback is probably the most important part of this review because Airwallex’s product specifications only tell part of the story.

On Trustpilot, Airwallex currently has a 2.9/5 TrustScore from roughly 2,500+ reviews. The distribution shown on the platform is notably polarized, with 57% of reviews at five stars and around 36% at one star. Trustpilot also notes that Airwallex has not recently invited customers to submit reviews, meaning the review sample may not be representative of the overall customer base.

Positive reviewers commonly mention helpful staff, international transfers, multi-currency functionality, and the convenience of managing business finances online. Negative reviews frequently discuss delayed payments, account restrictions, verification processes, and difficulty obtaining timely support.

What Reddit Users Say About Airwallex

Reddit discussions provide a more informal look at actual business-owner experiences. The feedback I found is mixed and tends to focus heavily on account restrictions and customer support.

In one 2026 Reddit discussion, a small-business owner described an account closure followed by an unexpected notification almost a year later saying the restrictions had been lifted. The post illustrates a recurring concern among some users: uncertainty around compliance reviews and account decisions.

Another recent Reddit discussion involved a new Airwallex customer waiting for a relatively small deposit to be reviewed and expressing frustration with automated customer support.

There are also older discussions from business owners who say Airwallex is easy to use and useful for international transactions. One user described it as easy to use for a Hong Kong company but complained about incoming transfer fees.

The pattern I see is that Airwallex can work smoothly when normal transactions flow through the system, but experiences become considerably more frustrating for some customers when compliance checks, payment investigations, or account restrictions occur.

Airwallex Reviews on G2 and Capterra

Software review platforms paint a somewhat different picture from Trustpilot.

At the time of research, G2 showed Airwallex at 4.1 out of 5 from 55 reviews, with users frequently discussing its multi-currency capabilities, international payments, interface, and integrations. G2 also contains negative reviews from users who experienced problems with funds, communication, or customer success.

Capterra showed Airwallex at 3.9 out of 5 from 15 reviews, with ease of use rated 4.1 and customer service rated 3.4. Some reviewers praised the simple interface and multi-currency functionality, while others mentioned customer-service delays.

The difference between these platforms and Trustpilot is worth noting. G2 and Capterra primarily evaluate Airwallex as business software, whereas many Trustpilot complaints focus on financial-account and transaction problems. Both perspectives are useful, but they measure somewhat different parts of the customer experience.

Account Verification and Restrictions

This is the area I would pay the most attention to before using Airwallex for critical business finances.

Because Airwallex operates as a regulated financial technology provider, it has compliance obligations and risk controls. Its eligibility documentation says businesses must meet requirements concerning incorporation, jurisdiction, supported industries, sanctions, and its risk appetite.

Airwallex also explains that it is regulated and licensed in the jurisdictions where its various entities operate. Its U.S. entity, for example, maintains money-transmitter licenses across numerous states.

These compliance processes are normal in financial services, but they can become disruptive for a business when transactions or accounts are placed under review. Recent Trustpilot and Reddit feedback includes reports of funds being held or accounts being restricted during investigations.

For that reason, I would not recommend treating any fintech account as the sole location for critical operating funds. Businesses should maintain appropriate financial redundancy regardless of which provider they use.

Is Airwallex Safe and Regulated?

Airwallex is a regulated financial technology provider rather than an unregulated payment website. The company publishes information about its licenses and regulatory arrangements across multiple jurisdictions.

Airwallex also maintains a public security center listing certifications and security documentation including SOC 1, SOC 2, PCI DSS, ISO/IEC 27001, and other security-related materials.

Its help documentation explains that customer-fund protections depend on the specific Airwallex entity and jurisdiction involved. That distinction matters because regulatory protections are not necessarily identical from one country to another.

So, while the company has substantial regulatory and security infrastructure, customers should still check the exact legal entity, terms, and protections that apply to their own account.

Airwallex Customer Support

Customer support is one of the most inconsistent areas in public feedback.

Some customers report helpful account managers and responsive staff. Capterra reviews, for example, include users who describe the service as easy to use and useful for international transactions, although customer-service ratings are lower than the platform’s overall ease-of-use rating.

At the same time, Trustpilot contains many complaints about slow responses and difficulty getting clear answers when accounts or transfers require investigation. Airwallex currently responds to a large percentage of negative Trustpilot reviews, but a company response does not necessarily mean the underlying customer problem was resolved.

For ordinary account management, support may be perfectly adequate. For urgent payment problems involving significant funds, however, the negative experiences reported publicly are worth taking seriously.

Airwallex Integrations

Integrations are another strong part of the platform. Airwallex promotes connections with ecommerce and accounting tools such as Shopify, Amazon, and Xero.

For an ecommerce company, this can reduce the amount of manual reconciliation required between sales platforms, payment accounts, expenses, and accounting systems.

Businesses with technical teams can also use Airwallex APIs and embedded-finance capabilities to integrate payment and financial functionality into their own products.

Pros and Cons of Airwallex

Potential Advantages

  • Multi-currency business accounts.
  • International payment and transfer capabilities.
  • Corporate and virtual cards.
  • Expense-management tools.
  • Online payment acceptance and payment links.
  • Integrations with ecommerce and accounting platforms.
  • Strong international focus for businesses operating across borders.
  • Extensive regulatory and security infrastructure.
  • Some business software reviewers report a user-friendly interface.

Potential Disadvantages

  • Customer experiences vary considerably.
  • Public complaints frequently mention account restrictions and payment delays.
  • Support experiences can be inconsistent.
  • Compliance reviews may interrupt access to accounts or funds.
  • Pricing and product availability vary by country and business type.
  • The platform is intended for businesses rather than personal accounts.
  • Businesses should maintain alternative financial arrangements for operational resilience.

Who Is Airwallex Best Suited For?

Airwallex makes the most sense for businesses with genuine international financial needs. Ecommerce companies selling into multiple countries, agencies working with overseas clients, SaaS companies with global customers, marketplaces, and businesses paying international suppliers can potentially benefit from its multi-currency infrastructure.

A company that operates entirely within one country and only needs a basic business account may not need the full range of Airwallex’s international features.

I would also recommend that businesses with significant transaction volumes carefully review their expected payment, FX, transfer, and card costs rather than choosing the platform solely because of its advertised account features.

How to Save on Airwallex

If you are considering Airwallex for your business, it is worth checking available promotions before signing up or purchasing eligible services. Our Airwallex coupons and deals page brings together available offers and savings opportunities in one place.

Because Airwallex pricing can vary by region and product, I would also compare the promotion with the current official pricing and applicable transaction fees before making a decision.

Final Thoughts on Airwallex

Airwallex is a sophisticated financial platform built around the needs of internationally active businesses. Its combination of multi-currency accounts, international transfers, corporate cards, expense management, payment acceptance, and integrations can simplify several financial workflows that would otherwise require multiple providers.

The independent review picture, however, is mixed. G2 and Capterra users generally provide more favorable software-oriented feedback, especially around usability and multi-currency functionality, while Trustpilot and Reddit contain substantial criticism involving account restrictions, delayed funds, verification, and customer support.

My biggest consideration would therefore be operational risk rather than simply the feature list. If your business depends heavily on uninterrupted access to its funds, it is sensible to maintain appropriate backup banking arrangements and understand Airwallex’s compliance requirements before making it a core part of your financial infrastructure.

For businesses that regularly operate across currencies and countries, Airwallex’s feature set can be compelling. But before opening an account, check eligibility in your country, review the current pricing and terms, understand which Airwallex entity will provide your service, and examine recent customer experiences relevant to your specific use case.
